My One Bedroom Apt Is Bigger Than This House

This 2 bedroom, one bathroom house, located in Cobb County is an example of how big an original Levittown home was at 792 sq. feet. The lot size is less than 1/2 an acre. The subdivision plan doesn't necessarily represent the Levittown. However, the interior and size of the house should give you a perspective of how much room a typical Levittown family shared.

At the bottom of my pictures I've posted two interesting links. The first link is of a transcipt of an interview conducted with D.J. Waldie about his neighborhood, his house, and his book.

The second link is actually a Lakewood website. This site goes into deep detail about Lakewood as a community. Waldie, referred to as Don Waldie, is the town historian and is mentioned many times in the website in the ABOUT LAKEWOOD tab at the top left of the site. Furthermore, pay close attention to the homepage of the website. The homepage portrays Lakewood as a very tight knit community that lives by the motto: Lakewood - Good Neighbors, Together We're Better! There is even a link on the right side of the homepage that gives you a chance to brag about your neighbor!

  1. Kenny, this is a fantastic post. You really did good work finding this house and photographing it! Kudos. Thank you also for sharing those links. Did seeing this house make Waldie's writing more vivid for you? Did it make you more or less sympathetic to critiques of postwar suburbanization?
