Mozeley Park (pictured below) was originally a white neighborhood located just west of Washington Park. Due to its location near Atlanta University Center, and pressure for black relocation into this area, white homeowners in Mozeley Park could find few white buyers for their properties and began selling to black buyers in the 1930's (182). In the late 1940s, racial tensions in the neighborhood lead to violence including the formation of a white supremacist group called "the Columbians" (Wiese, 182). The perception of decreasing property values due to violence and encroaching black neighborhoods further encouraged white flight.
