Wonderful new urbanist communities that have begun to infiltrate Atlanta offer an urban "feel" with row houses, mixed uses, and a park like setting. The images below show a small new urbanist neighborhood installed on a former public housing complex and "integrated" into the surrounding street car suburb. The paved rear yards are nice feature. The image of the house in the center is from a different part of town. Can anyone tell a difference? A whole new wave of tract housing in a craftsman motif has arrived. The back yard photo in intown streetcar suburb depicts a side and rear yard that has evolved to accomodate a welding shop, junk cars, periodic garden plot, and multiple apartments. The usefulness of the space is in contrast to the new urbanist lanscape.

Nice juxtapositions. Thanks to Blogspot I think the photos are out of order--and difficult to compare--but still quite worth it. The rear alley in place of yards is nuts but must have an interesting impact on behavior.
