Pictured above, is the shopping district at Avondale Estates. Built to resemble the Tudor style, Avondale was named after Shakespeare’s hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon.
Avondale, unlike the white island of Pine Lake City, is the farthest-reaching tip of a demographic peninsula jutting out eastward from Decatur. I find that the farther east one goes into Dekalb County the easier it is to find white residents with the fortress mentality we explored while reading Low. However in case of Avondale and Pine Lake, I find that this fear of the surrounding community is expressed mainly through heightened police presence instead of gates.
Interesting choice of place to illustrate these themes; I like your observation.
